Day 5&6 - Robin’s Birthday
Day 5 turned into Wet Wet Wet…
I’ve been told to stop shouting when writing but sorry I still can’t fix this yet …. be back to normal font tomorrow hopefully
After being woken by a chorus of cockerels…. We Set off with Steve’s horn blasting out each time he turned the steering wheel - fixed by Robin and his screwdriver by disconnecting through the grille - thankfully everyone else on the campsite had left before us!
Travelled 2x4 in the Carawagons to St Malo with Duncan Co pilot for Steve and Martyn Co pilot for Robin.
In St Malo there was a crazy lady in a pink top trying to get in the back of the vehicle..
Initially we couldn’t get parked as they don’t seem to like campervans in the town due to height restrictions being 1.9m but then decided to go out of town and spotted two places at the side of the road. We ate lunch before walking into the town along the sea front - this was the first pre-prepared lunch with the obligatory laughing cow and baguette.
We got a short walk on the town walls with Wendy shaming the adults walking along the wall itself - it was a stand- off at one point
Then it started to rain so we headed down some sheltering streets looking for a cafe
We found a great photo studio and we were admiring the picture when we got caught on camera as the artist was clearly being recognised for her great work - ‘scusee’ seemed to work to get us out before we got too embroiled! We did miss the free coffee and biscuits though.
We were then ready for coffee - or red wine - the team preferences are showing as we ordered our choices.
Steve got a lovely picture of a posing seagull
The scenery was looking pretty much like Cornwall with the clouds and drizzle.. Lovely crepe and ice creams again though.
Wendy was cooking dinner (vegetable pasta) so we went to the Supermarche on the way back to the campsite
Yet another road diversion so back on the coast road again! These 30 mph speed bumps are getting tedious on suspension and backs but better than the motorways. You just have to keep your keen eyes out for them before they creep up on you…. Still can’t decide which suspension is best just know Jenks’ has something wrong at the front…..
The evening took away with us and the rain came in so we did not post the stories from the day.. Steve has given up on the tarp and is now using his poncho on the back of his awning rails instead - a perfect fit although not sure what he is doing about the head-hole in the middle.
Day 6 - Robin’s Birthday!!
Woke up early with banners and birthday pancakes (as requested) which were the morning celebrations
We had a longer journey today and decided to go the scenic route which probably took twice as long but took us through some lovely villages and countryside
Comments about architecture including church steeples ensued on the radio
A slight misadventure when we lost Steve and Dianne driving around a shopping centre…. All sorted after a nice coffee and back on the road again. Thank goodness for the CB radios and Martyn’s camper being so huge we can see him a couple of miles off!!
A late lunch by the river was very relaxing. It started to rain and Martyn produced an umbrella that he then discovered was the other thing the mice had had a go at over the winter - even gaffa tape won’t fix this one…
and we arrived at our France Passion farm field around 5pm. The message on the website was to pitch up if no one was around so we did as we were told - after being welcomed by the dog - and then the owner came to see us around 6 just as Dianne was cooking a lovely curry. We did offer the lady some after she hinted that she liked the smell but she declined so we spent a convivial evening in the Hymer as it was cold again
We bought the local goods - Cidre, mead, honey and farm eggs. The mead was 16percent so we’ve kept that for another day….
The weather is still pretty hit and miss with some harsh rain and wind as well as brilliant sunshine.
There is a nice walk from the camping area down to a waterfall through the woods which Duncan and Wendy explored when the lady came to collect our 84 euros for her goods… a discussion then ensued about whether that was cheap or expensive - but it did include 7 bottles of cidre so shortly we won’t actually care either way.
Curry was consumed inside as it became VERY cold and windy - and flies came from nowhere… for no reason!
We’re planning to leave earlier tomorrow so we can get to the coast for breakfast and then head inland to Josselin.
Toilet tents erected - we’re now off to bed …
