Day 17: to Rotterdam
We eventually reached the fuel station to find that it was very expensive, only 4/14 pumps were working and then discovered that Sunder had sprung a water leak…
So we bought lunch paninis from the garage shop and had an early lunch while we waited for Sunder to cool down so that the hose could be re-
It turns out the exhaust has also disconnected itself before the silencer as well but there was no way of fixing it so Steve and Dianne had a slightly more noisy rest of their journey
It was hard work on the motorways: firstly knowing which lane to be in and also negotiating the traffic lights and later the cyclists when we finally got into Rotterdam
We had not managed any other stops other than at the Services for a drink but at least we all arrived intact although pretty tired after a nearly 6 hour journey
The seat at the services was a bit big for Wendy’s
The campsite was recommended by Patrick as he had been here before and we parked up right in the middle of the field in a jaunty circle (oh) which caused many of the other campers to come across and take a look at the vehicles
The plan had been to go out for a meal (a last supper together) but we were a little way away from the restaurants that were open so we opted for a pizza takeaway But…
By the time we had all decided what we wanted the website had closed for orders… so Patrick and Wendy walked to Lidl for supplies and we had another picnic of bread, cheese and whatever.
One shame was that Dianne had bought icecreams and put them in Martyn’s freezer - where they defrosted :-(
The campsite had good facilities and we are hoping we can pack up in the morning and leave the vehicles at the site while we go into Rotterdam for the day
The weather has been extremely hot and we were glad we only got stuck in one traffic jam - the one in the other direction went on for over 10 miles…
Wendy and Lucy tried to imitate the Titanic jump…
Patrick did his ‘oils’ again and Steve and Robin did something to the down-pipe on Sunder with some wire that Steve managed to get from somewhere…
It was then a process of drinking and eating anything that Patrick did not want to ‘use up’ over the next week as he is staying extra days
There was also hammock put up between Sunder and Jenks in case anyone was too hot in bed and a game of golf and pétanque…. Albeit the pétanque balls were rather too small!
