Day 4: Mont Saint Michel

 Day 4:

Continued to use the facilities at the camp site but L&K managed to offend a Scot’s lady in a shared shower.. ooh err

Went to Mont Saint Michel and had a lovely walk up and down - Martyn managing to walk all the way!

Wendy also had her first experience of driving on the right (wrong) side of the road and did admirably.

A good meal had by all - was originally crepes but ended up with pizzas and moules with obligatory chips and cidre (17 euros a big bottle)

Finished the trip with some lovely ice creams - well, 7 out of 8 of us did but Dianne’s was snatched by a seagull who took the whole cone and some of the salted caramel… 🥲

Was amazing to see groups of schoolchildren being frogmarched out to see the next island - yes, it was low tide but we guessed it was a well- rehearsed adventure and perfectly safe (not).

As we had parked the Landys in a lay-by/ rest area and travelled to the payable car park with Martyn, we went back to find vehicles happily still at the side of the road. Also the lay-by was also less than 500 yards from a France Passion camping area where they thankfully said we could stay - it was getting pretty late to try anywhere else.

After dancing around a few times to get the right layout in the corner of a field for all vehicles, we sat in the sun and enjoyed some great local cidre as well as fixing the window blinds on Jenks. Set up definitely happened a bit quicker this evening!

We had seen a sign for local cidre as we pulled in so D&W went to investigate and returned with 4 bottles at 4.60 euros each…

At the cidre  purchase there was also mention of a grill at the side of the road which turned out to be a very reasonable price for meat salad and chips and a pretty busy restaurant/ bar - and they even did a veggie lasagne for Veggie Concern (aka Wendy)

It turned into Steak night on a Wednesday!

Dinner was great - Dianne had another ice cream - ordered as vanilla with toffee and came out as toffee ice cream - but no seagulls anywhere around, just the sound of sheep and cockerels

We have now decided to stay here for 2 nights as we have a great camp set up - probably going to St Marlo tomorrow - we are using Martyn’s weather app as it gives a better prediction than everyone else’s. Might take coats and brollies though just in case.

Then putting the world to rights in the Hymer as well as saying hello to the local animals - some geese and pigmy goats as well as the cockerel - who certainly looks a bit of a bruiser… let’s just see what time he wakes us up tomorrow morning…

  1. Looks like a wonderful day out, I am envious of the local cidre you are finding too.
I learnt that every French camp site is located near a church with bells, or in the rare locations there's no early morning bells then a enthusiastic cockerel will be ready to wake you instead, possibly with a donkey accompaniment. Hopefully you avoided that this morning...
