Day 16: Beautiful Brugge

 After eggy-brioche fur breakfast:

We meandered into Bruges with Patrick’s vehicle and Buddy and thankfully managed to park in the first car park chosen - no height limits

We then walked into the beautiful town - along with all the other tourists including some cruise passengers.

We missed the first boat trips as they were all full after we’d walked the Main Street and eaten again and again… we sort of ‘slewed’ between eateries and drinkeries in the sunshine really as well as seeing many incredible buildings

Apparently the new ones are not allowed to be a copy of the old so the mix was really interesting

Dianne bought a new hat that would match Kevin’s pink T shirts - but not the one he us wearing today

There was a waffle-eating race with commentaries by Steve - Martyn won - not surprisingly… he did cheat by using his hands not the fork supplied.

Martyn had taken his scooter with him but no one realised quite how cobbled the streets were.. Amazingly it did not get stolen from outside the places he left it! He was looking very dapper today…

Lucy really tried to push open the biggest wooden gate in the world..

We had to go for an afternoon sit down so found a nice bar promising cold drinks

The two drivers were on iced tea and apfelsaft

The rest weren’t…. It was hot hot hot and the restaurant with black umbrellas probably was not the best choice!

Robin ordered himself a large blonde…

He also went down memory lane with a post box - something from 1976 and the GPO/ telecoms work he did in his early career

Beer featureed quite a lot across the town..

There was clearly some humour going around as well from the Belgians themselves

By the time we started to retrace our steps back out of the main shopping area we found a boat trip that was not busy so had an amazing trip with a great tour guide

Steve decided to get some air up his trousers …

The majority said they would go back to Bruges again to explore the museums etc that the boat guide had described. Maybe out of season

Retuning to the campsite nearly everyone had a little nap and plenty of showers as it had been nearly 30 degrees at some points during the day

Steve’s tally of breakdowns has increased again - without him even starting Sunder - the fridge has now stopped working …

We had yet another ‘all on the table’ picnic as we had just eaten Sooooo much during the day

There was also the remains of the gin and some other alcoholic beverages consumed rather than take them to the next campsite… sadly the next site will be our last time sitting in this glorious weather putting the world to rights before we get the ferry on Wednesday

Plans tomorrow include a pretty long drive to Rotterdam maybe via a stop near Antwerp… but who knows..
