Day 16: Beautiful Brugge

Image
After eggy-brioche fur breakfast: We meandered into Bruges with Patrick’s vehicle and Buddy and thankfully managed to park in the first car park chosen - no height limits We then walked into the beautiful town - along with all the other tourists including some cruise passengers. We missed the first boat trips as they were all full after we’d walked the Main Street and eaten again and again… we sort of ‘slewed’ between eateries and drinkeries in the sunshine really as well as seeing many incredible buildings Apparently the new ones are not allowed to be a copy of the old so the mix was really interesting   Dianne bought a new hat that would match Kevin’s pink T shirts - but not the one he us wearing today   There was a waffle-eating race with commentaries by Steve - Martyn won - not surprisingly… he did cheat by using his hands not the fork supplied.     Martyn had taken his scooter with him but no one realised quite how cobbled the streets were.. Day 15: into Belgium

Change of author for today… France to Minicamping 't Veld, in Belgium We all awoke (satisfyingly) to a sunny warm morning in France. Our three night stay has been very pleasant, especially yesterday with Sunder's head gasket being replaced. Our lovely Trip Advisor Wendy (decided) 😉suggested we head near Brugge.  We dutifully set off, but not before the camp owner came to see us off, gave us souvenir pens and complimented our camp. As the temperature hit 30C, Sunder was showing no sign of her poor performance BHG (before Head Gasket). More power and temperature normal!  Yesterday, Theo gave us a small gift as we completed the work on Sunder. A bottle of beer, only to be opened  when, not if, another breakdown occurred.  Little did we know... Arriving at the Belgian border, the road surface changed dramatically. For worse. Shake, rattle and roll, combined with her being manhandled for hours yesterday took their toll.  Patrick informed Stephen his exhaust had droo...

Day 14: Spares and Repairs

We were all on tenterhooks as Steve tried to get hold of the parts supplier for the head gasket.  Their website said they were closed - but Theo (a friend of Sebastien and the man who is lending his workshop and tools) was contacted and he said they were definitely open. Steve rang again to check that it was the correct gasket and Robin, Patrick and Steve set off for the long drive to collect the spares.   We had been joined on our pitch last night be a couple of Dutch girls who put up their tent without guy ropes which worried us a little - they did help look for Buddies keys however when they were believed to be lost …. Which they turned out not to be as they were safe in Kevin’s pocket.   The collection team arrived back to the campsite to another shared omelette to satisfy their hunger before all the boys set off for the workshop The post on the S2C website was: Side on Saturday - head gasket fixed…and a story to be told… Steve’s 200tdi head gadget blew a few day...
